Loyalty programs that actually work for food trucks and market stalls

Why traditional punch cards fail mobile vendors, and the loyalty approaches that fit irregular, weather-dependent trading.

Loyalty programs designed for daily cafés assume customers can visit whenever they like. Food truck and market stall customers can't — you might only be at their local market fortnightly, or their nearest festival annually. A loyalty approach copied straight from a fixed café rarely fits that rhythm.

Punch cards lose relevance across long gaps

A paper card asking for ten stamps assumes ten visits within a reasonable window. If a customer only sees you monthly, that's nearly a year to complete a card — most get lost or forgotten well before that.

Digital tracking removes the physical-card problem

A phone-number or app-based loyalty system means the customer's progress isn't lost with a misplaced card, and works even if they visit you at three different markets across a season rather than one fixed location.

Reward frequency over spend for irregular trading

Because visit frequency is naturally low for most mobile food customers, rewarding 'number of visits' rather than total spend value keeps the program achievable and motivating rather than feeling out of reach.

Use loyalty data to decide where to trade

A loyalty list segmented by which markets or areas customers engage from is genuinely useful business intelligence — it tells you where your regulars actually are, which should influence which events you prioritise next season.

Keep the reward simple and cheap to fulfil

A free regular item after a set number of visits is easier to cost and administer at a truck than percentage-off deals, which complicate till operations during a busy service.

Build the list once, use it everywhere

CartFlow's customer management keeps a single loyalty and contact list across every event you trade, so a customer who first found you at a Sunday market can be reached again when you announce a nearby festival.
